• September 2002
  Began my association with the Savoyards as a policeman in Pirates of Penzance in 1990. Over the next several years I appeared in Mikado, Ruddigore, Trial by Jury, and Iolanthe, each of them at least twice, as well as a few reviews. In my second Ruddigore, I played the role of "Old Adam". In 1996 I retired from the stage and took on the tasks of set builder. That lasted until 2000, when I discovered that an award was named after me: the "Irv" award for the person doing the most damage to himself during the run of a show. [ED: This is after Irv nearly de-gloved his fingers during construction.... Do not toss heavy platforming down a 10' drop and expect to catch it] Since 2000, I have attempted to keep the Savoyards in business by taking on the thankless task of Business Manager extraordinaire.

  In the real world I was an engineer at Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory (then part of Westinghouse, now called Bechtel Bettis). I retired in 2000 to pursue an interest in genealogy and found two surprises: I have a brother and sister that I had not known in my first 65 years, and I am descended from a German baron, who owned the Castle Kornberg in Austria.
